Tug's

Tuesday, 9 May 2017, 22:22

I would like to put forward a notion to ban tug's.

for the reason of:

A) We play hardcore maps, hardcore maps don't have a mini map. There is an obvious reason to this.

B) The use of tugs is to display and warn of close proximity of the enemy player, if well placed can be used with deadly accuracy specially in CQ maps.

C) In the instance of reason (B) use of the tug gives a large advantage to the defending teams and using it with the key stroke map is the next close thing to cheating, as it allows players to pinpoint other enemy players within its proximity.

I would like to ban the tug for these reason's and I hope you all see the logic to not using them, it takes the fun out of the game to know where and when the enemy is and striking.

cheers

I personally agree it negatively impacts the hardcore game mode. It is a very limited number of people that use it but there is no way of disabling minimap spotting without making the server custom. The only way to stop is to ban the tugs. The other possibility is that a mav used to have a similar function but not sure if it does in bf4.

I'm for removing tugs from our server

It doesn't bother me as you can hear the beeps quite clearly indicating there is A) a TUGS deployed and B) someone is spotting you, this only works when running. I am not 100% certain but I believe you will be undetected if crouched.

Tugs are annoying but add a necessary element of depth to the game. Yes they are frustrating, but no more so then turning a corner to trigger a claymore. As mentioned above, you know when one is around (beep) followed by a higher beep if you've been detected.

Crouching/moving slowly voids it's effectiveness, & I think recon class has a perk that means you can sprint & not trigger it. Failing that a quick blast in a MAV can take it out sharpish.

In some cases, tugs can work to your advantage. I saved some footage playing vs Chipi & some DJ's (will post on facebook) where I snuck up 2 flights of stairs alone & ambushed/ wasted a squad ftw because the precious tugs hadn't beeped (meaning I caught them off guard).

I understand it is far from popular, especially as none of us use it religiously. I just feel it is a valid accessory and adds to the diversity on our server.

Personally I think we've already banned enough. Whats next, banning weapons for high rate of fire, no flash, smoke or and c4/claymores. If this is where we are going then you can count me out of even playing on the server. Sorry but I believe we have a fine enough balance of rules as is.

I think that's a fair point.  I was reading our rules and there is quite a lot of things we have banned now.  The reason most things have been banned is abuse of them e.g. M320HE and SUAV or that they give an unfair advantage e.g. FLIR.  I think this is a similar case with TUGS in that it gives an unfair advantage.  To me the fundamental issue is that the map overlay and enemy spotting on it should not be available in hardcore full stop.  The minimap is removed in hardcore, why they didn't remove it full stop is beyond me, but hey that's brokenfield for you!

I'm happy for us to review what we have banned and if we re-instate or look at limiting things instead.  If we remove too much stuff people simply won't play on our server.

I'm with Porky and Hans on this one. It can be countered by being a tactical sneaky bitch. It is annoying to maybe having to adapt play style when you hear it go off, but it can be countered. Who hasn't used the minimap spot when your team mate puts one down? It is available to everyone and as previously stated, it can be countered. See the little circle I made there? *cough*

My thoughts on the other bans:

FLIR and IRNV - for pussies on Soft Core where you can be spotted by map so tactical advantage is negated anyway. Keep it Banned.

MORTARS - The mother of all teamkills but spammed just ruins any Defence. Keep it Banned.

M320HE - Horrible Eggs that are just spammed and ruin other servers we play on so glad it gone on DJ. Keep it Banned.

SUAV - Death from above. I'm in the air on this one *cough*. You can hear it coming and run away, duck, shoot i.e. counter. Good for clearing out Sniper nests and beacons, same as MAV. UCAV is a bigger flying mortar bomb but not banned.

And Bertie is right, removing too many things will stop people playing. In the last couple of evenings there have been multiple randoms moaning about "stupid server rules". A lot of these are low ranks who have probably just got Bf4 through the Origin deals and their introduction to a full on experience they are seeing as too limited and they won't be back.

Anyhoo, bang bang pow pow.
